Many women dream of feet with soft and smooth skin. Will pedicure socks help in this? After all, manufacturers promise with foot peeling at home to achieve a noticeable effect, without extra effort and expensive salon procedures. Learn important details about pedicure socks from the article.
What it is and how it works
Pedicure socks – a new way of foot care, which is available to every woman at home.
The fashion for them came from Asia relatively recently. But many ladies already prefer this method to hardware pedicure.
Two types are available for sale: silicone and polyethylene. The former have a mild effect. The second have a noticeable effect and are more popular. We will talk about them.
Exfoliating pedicure socks are designed to exfoliate the feet. Therefore, the cosmetic novelty is also called peeling or foot mask, as well as peeling socks.
These look like polyethylene socks or boots with a gel mass inside. It may also come with the socks in a separate bag or bottle. Then it should be applied to the boots just before the cosmetic procedure.
The active ingredients include organic acids, natural plant extracts and oils. They exfoliate dead skin, fight calluses, moisturize and nourish the skin of the feet.
What benefits are promised by the manufacturers of peeling socks:
- softening of the keratinized layer of the epidermis;
- moisturizing and nourishing the skin;
- elimination of dryness and flaking;
- antimicrobial effect;
- regulation of sweat gland activity;
- elimination of unpleasant odor;
- getting rid of corns, calluses.
The socks do not begin to work immediately. Only 2 to 4 days after the procedure, the skin of the feet will begin to peel and come off. Usually the renewal process takes 7 to 14 days.
During this time, do not use brushes, pumice stone, scissors. You can do warm foot baths, which will accelerate the peeling process. But then the feet after pedicure socks are smooth and well-groomed.
Some ladies note an additional benefit after such a peel: the cuticle on the toes is cleaned.
Benefits and harms
Many women have already tried pedicure socks on themselves. Some have been very satisfied and have begun to use the new method of care regularly. But there are also negative reviews, in which women point out the disadvantages they had to face.
The benefits and advantages of novelty include the following points:
- simple and easy to use at home;
- affordable price;
- high efficiency;
- The result is long-lasting (one treatment lasts for 2-3 months);
- does not traumatize like a hardware pedicure;
- There is no risk of fungus or infection like in the salon.
Here are the possible disadvantages and even harm that can cause socks:
- long procedure (on average 30-60 minutes);
- long process of skin renewal (unaesthetic appearance within 7-14 days);
- Risk of severe allergic reactions, chemical burns.
If the first and second disadvantages can be called relative, then the last one should be taken seriously. To avoid unpleasant consequences, you should carefully read the instructions, exercise caution and beware of fakes.
How to use it correctly
Different pedicure socks have a similar way of application. The differences mainly consist in the composition and duration of the procedure. Let’s consider how to use exfoliating socks, and what are the contraindications.
Instructions for use
Taking care of your feet at home with peeling socks is easy. Here are the universal instructions:
- Wash your feet with a mild detergent.
- Soak your feet in warm water for 10-15 minutes (you can take a bath or shower).
- Open the package, read the instructions.
- Put on pedicure socks and stand for the allotted time.
- After the procedure, wash your feet with warm water and soap.
If you wish, you can wear thin or terry socks over the polyethylene socks during the procedure. It will be warmer and more comfortable.
For the next 7-14 days, daily foot care will include washing, bathing in warm water or herbal decoction. You can use moisturizing and nourishing creams.
Important: The skin on your feet will come off gradually. During this period, do not use pumice stone, rubbers, saws. To avoid traumatizing the skin, wait until it descends on its own.
How much to keep on your feet
Follow the instructions on the package. Usually the treatment time is 40-60 minutes. Sometimes more.
Walking around in peeling socks is uncomfortable. That’s why it’s better to just sit. You can make yourself comfortable and watch a tablet or read while the peeling is going on.
How often can you use
It is recommended to make the mask not more often than once in 2-4 months. There is no need to do it more often: the result lasts about 3 months.
The right time for pedicure-peeling is autumn, winter and spring. In summer, when you wear open shoes, it will not be comfortable: feet with a sloughing skin will look unaesthetic.
Contraindications
Cosmetic procedure has contraindications:
- Mycosis, eczema and other dermatological diseases of the feet, especially during exacerbation;
- scratches and wounds;
- pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- diabetes mellitus;
- tattoos in the area of peeling application;
- viral and infectious diseases with a rise in body temperature;
- Allergic reactions to components of the mask.
To rule out an allergic reaction to the components of the mask, first perform a test. Apply a small amount to the skin and wait at least 15 minutes.
Consequences of improper use
Unfortunately, the use of pedicure socks sometimes causes a severe allergic reaction and a chemical burn. This painful condition can last for a month or more. Of the less unpleasant consequences – peeling of the skin, dryness and cracks.
Lactic and citric acids, which are often included in such masks, have an aggressive effect. And in a polyethylene boot, the gel mass affects not only the heels and corns, but also the delicate skin of the entire foot.
What to do if you burn your feet with peeling? If there was an acute allergic reaction, then 2-4 times a day you can apply gel “Fenistil” on the feet. With chemical burns will also help cream “D-Panthenol. It is gently rubbed in a thin layer on the affected skin 2-4 times a day.
In mild cases, cosmetic oils – almond oil, peach oil – can help with the problem. In severe cases, you should seek help from a dermatologist.
Is it possible to make with your own hands
On the Internet you can find different recipes for homemade masks for feet. Here is the composition of one of them:
- 2-3 tbsp. lemon juice;
- 6-7 crushed aspirin tablets;
- 2-3 tbsp. glycerin;
- 100 ml of warm water or decoction of chamomile.
First mix lemon juice and aspirin with warm water or decoction. Then we add glycerin. You can add 2 tablespoons of aloe gel as a caring component.
Do a test before use, as the concentration of the solution is determined empirically. There should be no burning sensation. A slight tickling sensation is acceptable. If necessary, dilute the mask with water to reduce the concentration of the active ingredients.
You can use cotton socks, bags and tape for the procedure. Keep for 30-40 minutes. Afterwards wash your feet with warm water and soap and apply a nourishing cream.
The effectiveness will depend on the right concentration of acids. However, this is not easy to do, so the result can be unpredictable. The application requires extreme caution.
